Volvo sold 58,881 cars in April, down from 65,838 in the same month the year earlier, it said Monday.
Sales of Volvo Car's range of fully electric and plug-in hybrid models decreased 16% on year and accounted for 45% of all cars sold.
Volvo Car Group reported a significant decline in global sales in April, with a 11% year-over-year decrease. The Swedish automaker sold 58,881 cars in April, down from 65,838 in the same month last year [1]. This marks a substantial drop in sales compared to April 2024, when the company sold 58,881 units.
A key factor contributing to the sales decline was the performance of Volvo's electrified models. Sales of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles decreased by 16% year-over-year and accounted for 45% of all cars sold in April. Fully electric models accounted for 20% of total sales, while plug-in hybrid models constituted 25% [2].
The XC60 remained the top-selling model in April, with sales of 19,887 units, followed by the XC40/EX40 with 13,783 units, and the XC90 with 9,746 units. These figures represent a decrease in sales compared to the same period last year [2].
For the first four months of 2025, Volvo Car Group sold 231,100 cars, a 7% decrease from the same period in 2024. The company's sales of electrified models for the period decreased by 5%, while the share of fully electric cars fell by 20%, and plug-in hybrid models increased by 11% [2].
The company's 2024 financial performance was robust, with a record-breaking core operating profit of SEK 27 billion and an all-time high in revenue of SEK 400.2 billion. However, the latest sales figures suggest a challenging start to 2025, particularly for the company's electrified vehicle segment [3].
