Volkswagen, Amazon Web Services extend collaboration on DPP
Volkswagen has announced the extension of its 'factory cloud' partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) by another five years. The German automaker aims to leverage the collaboration to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The partnership, which began with the creation of a digital production platform (DPP), is now being expanded to cover more of Volkswagen's global production sites.
According to Volkswagen's Chief Executive for IT, Hauke Stars, the company's goal is to become a technology leader in the automotive industry. The extended partnership will allow Volkswagen to digitize and network its operations more extensively, integrating complex production processes and optimizing assembly line efficiency. The company currently uses the DPP in 43 locations across Europe, North America, and South America, with plans to expand its reach globally to its over 114 production sites.
The use of cloud-based AI technologies is expected to generate significant cost savings for Volkswagen in the medium term. The company estimates that the systems could result in tens of millions of euros in savings across the group. This initiative is part of Volkswagen's broader strategy to cut costs and improve operational efficiency as it undergoes a major overhaul.
