Vodafone to Acquire 20% More Stake in Safaricom for €1.81 Bln, Gaining Control

Vodafone Group has agreed to acquire a 20% stake in Kenya's Safaricom for €1.81bn, increasing its total stake to 55%. The deal is expected to close in Q1 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Safaricom owns a scaled tower and spectrum portfolio in Kenya, as well as fintech business M-Pesa with 38 million customers. Vodafone's African subsidiary, Vodacom Group, will acquire the stake from the Government of Kenya and Vodafone.
