Vitalik's Portfolio: Bitcoin Under 10%, SEC Approves Bitcoin ETF
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has recently shared insights into his cryptocurrency portfolio, revealing that Bitcoin (BTC) makes up less than 10% of his holdings. In a Twitter post, Buterin stated, "I'm under 10% in BTC. But then again, I'm under 10% in anything that's not ETH." This disclosure underscores Buterin's commitment to Ethereum (ETH), which remains his primary investment.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has given initial approval to Bitwise Asset Management's Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF. The ETF will track the spot prices of BTC and ETH, with 83% allocated to BTC and 17% to ETH. However, Bitwise still needs the SEC to approve its Form S-1 registration for the fund to go live. The approval comes less than two weeks after the SEC appointed a new crypto-friendly acting chair.
January has proven to be a strong month for Bitcoin, ranking as the second-best month in the last ten months, with a 35% price increase. This performance follows November 2024, which saw a 37% price increase after President Trump's election win. Historically, January has been one of the top-performing months for BTC, with five of the last six Januarys ending in the green, and an average gain of about 4%.
This January has been particularly eventful, with President Donald Trump taking office and implementing several pro-crypto policies. Looking ahead, February has historically been the third-best month for Bitcoin, with an average gain of 16%.
