Vitalik Buterin Slams Ethereum Critics, Defends Blockchain Gambling
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently expressed his disappointment with some members of the ETH community who criticized the ecosystem for not being more welcoming to blockchain-based gambling applications, often referred to as "casinos."
During an ask-me-anything (AMA) session on Tako, Buterin responded to a question about whether he had felt disappointed with the Ethereum Foundation, the crypto industry, or the community. He admitted that he had, especially when others questioned why Ethereum had not been more open to applications involving blockchain gambling. This comment seemed to be a subtle jab at Ethereum's competitor, Solana, which has embraced a significant amount of memecoin activity over the past year.
Buterin's comment comes at a time when the Ethereum community has faced criticism from members who worry that the chain will lose its competitive edge to rivals if it doesn't address some core issues. Meanwhile, Solana has attracted more new developers than Ethereum and has poached top talent.
Buterin also stated that if the community continues to engage in what he described as a "moral reversal," he would no longer participate in the Ethereum ecosystem. However, he added that he still feels a responsibility to the community and cannot abandon them, as their values remain the same when interacting in person.
