Vitalik Buterin Maps Ethereum's Scalability Journey: L1, L2, and ETH 3.0

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently participated in a text-based AMA on the Tako platform, where he discussed the future of Ethereum and the concept of "ETH 3.0." Buterin clarified that there is no formal definition of "ETH 3.0" at present, although some may associate it with Justin Drake's five-year plan, which primarily focuses on the consensus layer. He emphasized the importance of understanding the interaction between Layer 1 (L1) and Layer 2 (L2) as a critical aspect of Ethereum's scalability strategy.
Buterin outlined a comprehensive roadmap for Ethereum's development, highlighting the enhancement of L1's functionalities and the improvement of cross-L2 interoperability. He pointed out the significance of finetuning transaction fees paid by L2 to L1, suggesting that a broader perspective is needed when assessing these costs. The recent spike in blob fees, reaching approximately 500 ETH in the last month, demonstrates the dynamic nature of fee structures within the Ethereum ecosystem. This underscores the need to fortify L1 capabilities to effectively support L2 advancements while ensuring robust community adaptability.
