Virudhunagar Collector Declares Local Holiday for Andal Temple Car Festival on July 28

The Virudhunagar Collector, N.O. Sukhaputra, has declared a local holiday for Virudhunagar district on July 28, Monday, in conjunction with the Andal temple car festival [1]. This event is part of the Aadi Pooram festival celebrations. The compensatory working day has been scheduled for August 9, the second Saturday of the month.

Additionally, in anticipation of the Aadi Amavasai festival on July 24, the Collector has ordered the closure of liquor shops in certain areas. Specifically, three Tasmac retail shops in Watrap, Maharajapuram, and Ilainthaikulam, as well as FL 1 and FL 2 bars run by different recreation clubs in Watrap, Maharajapuram, and Koomapatti, will be closed on July 24 and 25 [1].

In other financial news, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has granted an extension to Meta and Google until July 28 to appear before the agency regarding their involvement in hosting advertisements for illegal betting sites [2]. The tech companies have requested more time to gather documents related to the ongoing probe into these betting sites, which have allegedly defrauded Indian citizens of substantial amounts. This follows a previous ED investigation that led to the attachment of assets worth Rs 337 crore related to illegal betting activities [2].
