Virgin Wines UK plc, one of the UK's largest direct-to-consumer online wine retailers, announced that Graeme Weir, the company's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Company Secretary, will retire on April 4, 2025, after 22 years of service. Amanda Cherry, the current Head of Group Finance, has been appointed as his successor, effective the same date.

Graeme Weir's retirement marks the end of an era for virgin wines, as he has played a vital role in the company's growth and success over the past two decades. During his tenure, Weir led the private equity-backed buyout of the company in 2013 and the Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2021. He has also been instrumental in the company's financial management and strategic decision-making processes.

Amanda Cherry, a qualified chartered accountant with 16 years of experience at Virgin Wines, will take over as the new CFO. Cherry has worked closely with Weir and the board, making her well-embedded in the business and ensuring a smooth transition. Her appointment brings a balance of continuity and fresh impetus to the CFO role, as she is well-versed in the company's operations while also bringing a unique perspective and ideas to drive future growth.

Jay Wright, the CEO of Virgin Wines, commented on the changes, "We would like to thank Graeme for his enormous contribution to the Group and wish him well in his retirement. He has played a vital role in the Group's significant progress and growth over the last 22 years. It has been a privilege to work with him over that period and he will be missed by the whole Virgin Wines team. However, I look forward to progressing the next stage of our growth with Amanda, who is well embedded in the business, and welcome her to the Board."

Graeme Weir also expressed his confidence in Amanda Cherry's appointment, stating, "After 22 years as CFO of Virgin Wines, I feel now is the right time to step down and enjoy retirement. I am delighted to hand over the reins to Amanda, who knows the business well and will provide continuity but also a fresh impetus into Virgin Wines' future growth plans. I remain fully committed to supporting the business and completing a smooth transition."

In conclusion, Graeme Weir's retirement and Amanda Cherry's appointment as the new CFO mark an important chapter in Virgin Wines' history. While Weir's departure will be a significant loss, Cherry's appointment ensures continuity and brings fresh ideas to drive the company's future growth. As Virgin Wines continues to expand its product range, customer base, and distribution capabilities, the company remains confident in its longer-term prospects and commitment to driving efficiencies and generating cash.
