VinFast Ventures into India with High-End Electric SUVs to Rival Mahindra & BYD

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is set to introduce two high-end electric SUVs to the Indian market, directly challenging local competitor Mahindra & Mahindra as well as Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD in what is currently the world's third-largest automobile market.
VinFast announced plans to commence sales of these India-manufactured vehicles later this year, marking the company's first foray into the South Asian country. This strategic move exemplifies VinFast's ambitions to diversify its market presence globally beyond its home borders.
While the company has yet to disclose pricing details for the upcoming VF6 and VF7 models in India, this information will be crucial as the brand seeks to appeal to Indian consumers who are generally characterized by their price sensitivity yet eager for modern automotive innovations.
At the India Auto Show held in New Delhi on January 17, VinFast unveiled a variety of models, including the compact concept car VF3 and the larger luxury vehicle VF9, generating anticipation and discussions about VinFast's potential influence in the evolving Indian auto sector.
VinFast's Executive Vice President Ashwin Ashok Patil expressed his optimism during the event, noting, "I am very confident," and detailed that production is slated to start after June, with sales launching in the second half of 2025. Patil further elaborated on the expected momentum, stating, "You will see this push in 2025 and 2026."
