Vancouver School Board Votes to Close Sir Guy Carleton Elementary School After Over $650,000 in Maintenance Costs Over Nine Years

The Vancouver School Board has voted to officially close Sir Guy Carleton Elementary School, which was damaged by a fire in 2016. Despite staff recommendations to close the school, trustee Suzie Mah attempted to pause the closure and request funding from the province to repair the school. However, her motion failed, and the school was permanently closed in a 6-3 vote. The school board chair argued that no one was being served by the current state of affairs, and the funds could be directed toward supporting students and schools in active use.
