VALR, Africa’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trade volume, has launched the Garrington Capital USD Private Credit Token (USDPC) on its platform, marking a significant step in integrating blockchain technology with traditional finance. The token, issued by RainFin and representing a tokenised interest in Garrington Capital’s private credit strategy, offers institutional-grade investment opportunities to a broader audience. USDPC targets annual returns of 8-10% through a diversified portfolio of senior secured, asset-backed private loans across North America. Available to all VALR clients via its over-the-counter (OTC) desk, the product aims to diversify portfolios, hedge against currency risk, and provide low-correlation returns. VALR’s CEO, Farzam Ehsani, emphasized the initiative’s role in democratizing access to exclusive financial products, aligning with the exchange’s mission to expand financial inclusion [1].
USDPC’s structure is underpinned by Garrington Capital’s 25-year track record, with over $6 billion deployed in North American private credit markets since 1999. As of June 2025, the strategy’s net annualised 3-year return stood at 10.70%, supported by a portfolio of 105 asset-backed loans, 99% of which are first-position senior secured loans. The loans are categorized across five lending segments, managed by Garrington’s experienced team. RainFin, VALR’s tokenisation partner, highlighted its role in fractionalising traditionally exclusive investments, enabling 24/7 liquidity and reducing settlement costs. Sean Emery, RainFin’s CEO, noted the collaboration’s potential to bridge traditional finance and digital assets, expanding access for African and global investors [1].
The token’s features include daily re-pricing, redemption options of 7-30 days, and same-day liquidity on a best-efforts basis. VALR charges a competitive spread for OTC access, positioning USDPC as a liquid alternative to conventional private credit instruments. This launch is part of VALR’s broader strategy to develop the VALR Invest platform, which will streamline subscription and redemption processes for tokenised assets and introduce additional products. The platform’s expansion underscores VALR’s leadership in Africa’s crypto ecosystem, where it serves 1.4 million users and 1,400 corporate/institutional clients. The exchange, licensed by South Africa’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority and with approvals in Europe and Dubai, has raised $55 million in equity funding from investors such as Pantera Capital and
Ventures [1].Garrington Capital’s Managing Director, Toreigh Stuart, emphasized the innovation’s alignment with the firm’s commitment to disciplined private credit strategies while leveraging technology to broaden access. The partnership with RainFin and VALR, he stated, preserves the integrity of investment processes while democratizing participation in high-quality, yield-bearing opportunities [1].
The product carries risks, including market volatility and liquidity constraints, with past performance not indicative of future results. VALR disclaims responsibility for USDPC’s performance, underscoring the importance of due diligence for investors. The cautionary note highlights that returns are net of fees and subject to regulatory, market, and operational risks, with no guarantees from the exchange [1].
