University of Sharjah Partners with Binance Academy to Advance Blockchain Education and Innovation

The University of Sharjah (UOS) has entered a strategic collaboration with Binance Academy, the educational division of Binance, the world’s largest blockchain ecosystem and infrastructure provider, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on August 4, 2025. The agreement focuses on advancing blockchain research, education, talent development, and innovation, aligning with both parties’ goals to drive digital transformation and foster Web3 leadership in the UAE and beyond [1].

The MoU was signed by Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies at UOS, and Rachel Conlan, Chief Marketing Officer at Binance. The partnership includes the development of specialized academic programs, joint research initiatives, capacity-building workshops, and hackathons. It also facilitates student internships, startup incubation, expert exchanges, and mentorship opportunities [1].

According to Prof. Bettayeb, the collaboration will integrate global industry expertise into UOS’s academic and research environment, equipping students to lead in the evolving blockchain sector. Rachel Conlan emphasized Binance’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s digital transformation by nurturing local talent, research, and education, leveraging the company’s global reach of over 280 million users [1].

Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy, Head of the Technology Transfer Office at UOS, highlighted the strategic importance of blockchain and Web3 technologies, stating that the partnership would catalyze innovation-driven projects in the coming period. Bader Kalooti, Regional Growth Lead at Binance, added that the collaboration aims to create a thriving ecosystem for students, researchers, and entrepreneurs in the Web3 era [1].

The University of Sharjah, home to over 20,000 students from more than 100 countries, is recognized for its strong research output and academic excellence. In the 2024–2025 US News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings, it ranks 1 in the UAE, 4 in the Arab region, and 261 globally. It is also among the top 300 universities worldwide in six disciplines, including Computing and Engineering [1].

This MoU is part of UOS’s broader strategy to position Sharjah as a leading center for advanced technologies and sustainable innovation. The partnership underscores the role of academia in supporting global tech ecosystems through collaboration with industry leaders [1].
