University of KwaZulu-Natal Pioneers Green Energy with AI and Blockchain Technology

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) aims to become South Africa's first predominantly renewable-powered university through a partnership with Hong Kong-based tech innovator Youtility. The joint venture uses AI and blockchain technology to decentralize energy generation, distribution, and payment. The initial rollout will involve 2,000 solar panels and battery banks to generate on-site power, with a sentient AI system called Wizdom managing energy flows. This project positions UKZN as a pioneer in sustainable energy and a testbed for technologies that could reshape South Africa's energy landscape.
