Ukraine ceasefire to last April 19-21: TASS
April 19, 2025 - The United States has presented a framework for ending the war in Ukraine, including a ceasefire, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio [1]. The proposal was discussed at a meeting on the Ukrainian settlement in Paris, where French President Emmanuel Macron met with Rubio and US special envoy Steven Witkoff. The Elysee Palace reported that these negotiations brought their positions closer to resolving the conflict [1].
Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, however, considers a ceasefire unrealistic at this point due to the Ukrainian regime's non-compliance with the moratorium on strikes on energy infrastructure [1]. From March 18 to April 16, Ukraine carried out strikes on energy facilities in 15 Russian regions, using unmanned aerial vehicles and various types of artillery [1].
US President Donald Trump previously proposed a suspension of attacks on energy infrastructure, which was supported by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. However, the Ukrainian side continued to strike Russian energy facilities, leading to the continuation of the conflict [1].
The ceasefire proposal, if accepted, could potentially ease the ongoing tensions and provide a pathway towards peace. However, the effectiveness of the ceasefire will depend on the compliance of both sides with the agreed-upon terms.
