HMRC is reviewing the earnings of four million online sellers to identify those who may not be paying enough tax. Online platforms such as eBay, Vinted, and Etsy are required to share information on users who make over £1,700 a year. HMRC collected data on 3,988,892 sellers in 2025, up from 1,466,171 in the previous year. The taxman cannot yet issue fines due to lack of systems, but expects to be able to review data and carry out compliance activity soon.
