Uber is introducing a new feature called "Women Preferences" in select U.S. cities, allowing women riders and drivers to opt for matches exclusively with one another. This feature, currently being piloted in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit, aims to enhance safety and control for women using the ride-sharing service. Women riders will have three options to choose rides with women drivers: requesting on-demand, reserving in advance, or setting a preference in their app settings. While the preference is not guaranteed, it increases the likelihood of being matched with another woman. This initiative follows a similar program launched in Saudi Arabia in 2019, which has since expanded to 40 countries. Uber's vice president of operations, U.S. and Canada, Camiel Irving, stated that the company believes improving the platform for women will benefit everyone. The feature is part of Uber's broader efforts to protect women passengers and drivers through education, partnerships, and additional features.
