The partnership between Uber, Lucid Motors, and Nuro, a robotics company, aims to leverage Lucid's electric vehicle technology and Nuro's autonomous driving capabilities. Uber will use its vast global network and dynamic fleet management to deliver a fully integrated robotaxi experience.
According to Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, the partnership is designed to safely bring the magic of autonomous driving to more people across the world. Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO at Lucid, noted that the investment validates Lucid's platform and range as ideal for autonomous vehicles and ridesharing.
Nuro, which has spent nearly a decade building an AI-first autonomy system, will lead the development and validation of the robotaxi's safety case. The first Lucid-Nuro robotaxi prototype is already operating autonomously on a closed circuit at Nuro’s Las Vegas proving grounds.
This partnership is significant for Lucid, as it provides a new revenue stream beyond selling luxury cars to individual buyers. It also offers Lucid exposure to Uber’s massive user base and further tech validation from Nuro.
