Uber (UBER) and NVIDIA have joined forces to accelerate the development of AI-driven autonomous driving technology. This strategic partnership aims to leverage the vast and rich data from Uber's daily trips to strengthen AI models and enhance the safety, performance, and scalability of autonomous vehicles. By combining Uber's extensive data with NVIDIA's cutting-edge hardware and software solutions, the two companies are poised to revolutionize the autonomous driving landscape.

NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX platform, which includes hardware and software solutions for developing autonomous driving functions and immersive in-vehicle experiences, will be at the core of this collaboration. The platform consists of DRIVE Orin, a system-on-a-chip (SoC) delivering 254 TOPS (trillion operations per second) for powering autonomous driving capabilities, confidence views, digital clusters, and AI cockpits. Additionally, DRIVE Thor, a next-generation centralized car computer, combines advanced driver assistance and an AI cockpit on a single safe and secure system, with 1,000 INT8 TOPS/1,000 FP8 TFLOPS/500 FP16 TFLOPS of performance. The DRIVE Hyperion reference architecture, which integrates DRIVE Orin-based AI compute with a complete sensor suite, will also play a crucial role in this partnership.

NVIDIA DRIVE Software, an open, full-stack solution that enables key self-driving functionalities such as sensor fusion and perception, will be another key component of the collaboration. The software includes DRIVE OS, the foundation of the DRIVE software stack, providing a safe operating system for in-vehicle accelerated computing, including NVIDIA CUDA libraries, TensorRT, and NvMedia. DriveWorks, middleware functions on top of DRIVE OS, consists of the sensor abstraction layer (SAL) and sensor plug-ins, data recorder, vehicle I/O support, and a deep neural network (DNN) framework. DRIVE Chauffeur, an AI-assisted driving platform that can handle both highway and urban traffic with the utmost safety, and DRIVE Concierge, which delivers new, always-on intelligent services for the driver and passengers, will also be part of the partnership.

NVIDIA DGX, an AI training platform designed to accelerate autonomous vehicle development, and NVIDIA Omniverse, a real-time 3D design and collaboration platform that enables high-fidelity, physically based simulation to train, test, and validate AVs, will also be integral to the partnership. These technologies will help Uber and NVIDIA collaborate on enhancing autonomous driving capabilities, with a focus on safety, performance, and scalability.

The vast and rich data from Uber's daily trips will be utilized to strengthen AI models in the partnership by being paired with NVIDIA's Cosmos platform, a new platform of state-of-the-art generative world foundation models, tokenizers, and accelerated data processing and model customization pipelines. This platform is purpose-built for developing physical AI systems like robots and autonomous vehicles. Additionally, the data will be used in conjunction with NVIDIA DGX Cloud, a high-performance, fully managed AI platform preconfigured with the latest NVIDIA architecture and software, to extract valuable insights and improve AI models.

In conclusion, the partnership between Uber and NVIDIA is set to revolutionize the autonomous driving landscape by leveraging the vast and rich data from Uber's daily trips to strengthen AI models and enhance the safety, performance, and scalability of autonomous vehicles. With NVIDIA's cutting-edge hardware and software solutions, the two companies are poised to accelerate the development of AI-driven autonomous driving technology and bring safer, more efficient transportation to the world.
