UAE says its air defense systems are currently resilient
The United Arab Emirates has demonstrated the resilience of its air defense systems in countering recent Iranian missile and drone attacks, according to official reports. Since the escalation began, UAE air defenses have intercepted 186 ballistic missiles, with 172 destroyed mid-flight, 13 falling into the sea, and two landing within the country's territory. Additionally, 812 drones were detected, of which 755 were intercepted, while 57 breached defenses according to Gulf News. The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the country's multi-layered air defense architecture—including long-, medium-, and short-range systems— enables high-efficiency interception of diverse aerial threats. Advanced technologies such as THAAD and Patriot PAC-3 systems, alongside integrated command structures, have been critical in managing saturation attacks.
Despite residual damage from debris, the UAE has maintained operational continuity, with emergency services responding promptly to minimize casualties and economic disruption. Three fatalities and 68 injuries were reported, alongside minor material damage to civilian infrastructure. The government reiterated that its defense operations adhere to strict rules of engagement and safety protocols to limit collateral impacts.
Financially, the UAE's banking sector remains stable, with total assets exceeding AED 5.42 trillion, a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 17%, and a Liquidity Coverage Ratio surpassing 146.6%—well above global benchmarks. Strategic reserves of essential commodities are secured for four to six months, reinforcing economic resilience amid regional volatility. These indicators underscore the UAE's capacity to balance robust defense spending with financial stability, ensuring continuity in its role as a global business and tourism hub.
