Trump Says 2024 Presidential Bid Will Be His Last
Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in an interview on Sunday that if he fails in the November 5th election, he will not run for the U.S. presidency for the fourth time.
When asked by the host if he would run again in four years if he failed in this presidential campaign, Trump replied: No, I think that that will be, that will be it. I don't see that at all.
Trump defeated Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election and first entered the White House. In 2020, he was defeated by the incumbent President Biden in his re-election campaign. Now it is his third time running for the presidency.
Trump was born in 1946 and is currently 78 years old. By the 2028 U.S. presidential election, he will be 82 years old. Before Biden announced his withdrawal from the election, Trump often mocked the 81-year-old Biden for being too old.
When asked whether leaving the White House for four years has helped him reorganize and find trustworthy allies, Trump said it would have been easier if he "did it contiguously", but he added that the benefit of his failure to be re-elected was to shows how bad the Democrats were.
Trump also said that it is too early to reach agreements with anyone on cabinet appointments.
Trump has always attributed his loss to Biden four years ago to widespread voter fraud. Due to not recognizing the loss of the 2020 election, his supporters broke into the Capitol building, trying to overturn the election results, creating a shocking Capitol Hill riot incident.
Trump is facing federal and state criminal charges for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Still, he denies any wrongdoing and sees the prosecution against him as political persecution.
Now, as the 2024 U.S. election is approaching, people are increasingly worried that if Trump loses the election, the United States may not be able to achieve a peaceful transfer of power.
According to a recent survey, 46% of Republican respondents said they would not accept the legitimacy of the election results if the Democratic candidate wins. 14% of Republicans said they would take action to overturn the election results if the Democratic candidate wins.
At present, Trump's competition with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is very fierce. Although Harris has begun to lead in national polls, the two are neck and neck in the support rate of key battleground states, which may be the decisive factor in determining who wins the election.
