Trump's Memecoin Boosts UAE Crypto App Downloads by 41%
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed a significant surge in cryptocurrency app downloads in 2024, with a 41% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from app analytics platform AppsFlyer. The top 49 crypto apps in the UAE saw their downloads reach 6.2 million in 2023, jumping to 15 million in 2024.
The majority of these downloads occurred in the second half of 2024, with crypto app installs exceeding 1 million per month in the final quarter. December saw the biggest surge, with 2.8 million downloads. AppsFlyer attributed this increase to several key developments in the cryptocurrency space, including the election of Donald Trump as the US President and the launch of his own memecoin.
Shani Rosenfelder, the director of market insights at AppsFlyer, noted that Trump's pro-crypto stance and the launch of his memecoin played a role in the adoption of crypto apps in the UAE. Aggressive marketing efforts also drove 60% of the crypto app traffic in 2024, although retention remained a challenge, with one in five apps uninstalled within 30 days.
Despite the challenges, the potential for growth in the UAE's crypto market remains significant. Crypto app installs in the UAE reached nearly 3.5 million in January 2025, more than half of all installs seen in the country through all of 2023. As the market continues to grow, prudent crypto app marketers must use every tool in their arsenal to gain and retain market share.
