Trump congratulates Fuller on Georgia special house runoff
President Donald Trump has congratulated Republican candidate Clay Fuller following his advancement to the April 7 runoff in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District special election, a race to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene according to NBC News. Fuller, a district attorney and Trump-endorsed candidate, secured 33% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary, while Democratic nominee Shawn Harris, a retired Army brigadier general, led with 41%. The runoff will determine the successor to Greene, who resigned in January after a public dispute with Trump over policy priorities and record releases related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation as reported by Fox News.
The 14th District, a solidly Republican-leaning area that Trump won by 37 points in the 2024 presidential election, remains a critical battleground for maintaining the GOP’s narrow 218–214 House majority. Fuller’s campaign has received financial backing from groups such as the Club for Growth and Conservatives for American Excellence, a super PAC funded by GOP megadonor Paul Singer. Meanwhile, Harris has raised $4.3 million, the most of any candidate, and positioned himself as a pragmatic alternative to Greene’s controversial MAGA-aligned rhetoric.
Trump’s endorsement has amplified Fuller’s visibility, though the runoff will test the candidate’s ability to unify the Republican base ahead of a November general election. With no candidate securing a majority in Tuesday’s primary, the race underscores the competitive nature of special elections in shaping legislative dynamics.
