U.S. President Donald Trump announced a breakthrough in trade framework agreement with the United Kingdom, describing it as a significant milestone that will lower trade barriers and expand market access for U.S. goods.
“I am pleased to announce that we have reached a breakthrough trade agreement with the United Kingdom,” Trump said from the Oval Office on Thursday.
The details of the agreement will continue to be negotiated over the next few weeks, but under the terms of the deal, the UK will expedite the customs clearance process for U.S. goods and reduce barriers to exports in
, chemicals, energy, and industrial products.“This agreement will provide tens of billions of dollars in additional market access for U.S. exports, particularly in the agricultural sector, significantly enhancing market access for U.S. beef, ethanol, and almost all products produced by our farmers,” Trump stated.
This is the first agreement announced since Trump imposed high tariffs on dozens of U.S. trading partners.
“This will promote trade between our two nations, not only protecting jobs but also creating jobs and opening up market access,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said via a phone link.
