Transdev Workers Secure 24% Wage Increase, Strong Union Protections

Transdev bus drivers, dispatchers, fuelers, and cleaners represented by Teamsters Local 251 have voted overwhelmingly to ratify their first contract, securing a strong three-year agreement that includes significant pay increases, safety protections, seniority in job bidding, and employer contributions into a Teamsters retirement plan. The 56 Transdev Teamsters fought for over a year in negotiations to secure this fair first contract that addressed their needs and concerns.
“These workers fought tooth and nail to secure a strong first Teamsters contract,” said Matthew Taibi, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 251 and Director of the Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division. “Transdev Teamsters remained determined and committed to getting a fair first contract that addressed their needs and concerns. We are grateful for their solidarity throughout this battle, but it just goes to show that when Teamsters fight, Teamsters win.”
The bus workers provide transportation services at Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Rhode Island College (RIC).
“We are thankful for the support of the community and students who made it clear they would support us if we had to strike. I’m very proud of my co-workers for staying strong and focused during this long negotiation process,” said Daven Cox, a shuttle driver for Transdev in Providence.

This significant wage increase and improved working conditions can have a positive impact on the company's operations in several ways. Firstly, a satisfied and motivated workforce is more likely to be productive and innovative, leading to improved service quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, lower turnover rates can result in significant cost savings for the company, as replacing an employee can be expensive in terms of recruitment, training, and lost productivity.
Moreover, the employer contributions into a Teamsters retirement plan provide employees with a sense of security and financial stability, which can lead to increased job satisfaction and productivity. By investing in their employees' future, Transdev demonstrates its commitment to their long-term success and well-being. This can foster a sense of loyalty and dedication among employees, leading to improved productivity and better overall performance.
In the long term, these provisions can have a positive impact on the company's financial performance. A stable and productive workforce can lead to improved operational efficiency, reduced labor costs, and increased profitability. Additionally, the improved working conditions and benefits can help Transdev attract and retain top talent, which can lead to further improvements in productivity and innovation.
