TotalEnergies Plunges 3.69% Amid Strategic Moves

TotalEnergies has recently completed several significant acquisitions and strategic initiatives. In Europe, the company has finalized the acquisition of VSBVSDB--, a German energy company, and is expanding its comprehensive power business, particularly in Germany. This acquisition includes a project portfolio exceeding 15 GW, which will increase TotalEnergies' renewable energy project capacity in Europe to over 40 GW. Additionally, the company has acquired battery storage developer Kyon Energy and energy management firm Quadra Energy, further strengthening its position in the German market.
In Africa, TotalEnergies has completed the acquisition of SN Power, a Norwegian renewable energy company, and is implementing its multi-energy strategy, particularly in Uganda. This acquisition includes a 28.3% stake in the 225 MW Bujagali hydropower plant, which meets over 25% of Uganda's peak electricity demand. The deal also includes stakes in two other hydropower projects in Rwanda and Malawi, enhancing TotalEnergies' expertise in hydropower development.
In Canada, TotalEnergies has signed agreements to acquire several wind and solar projects in Alberta, with a total capacity exceeding 800 MW. The company has also completed the acquisition of the 184 MW Big Sky Solar project, which began operations in late February. This project will sell the majority of its electricity under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), with the remainder to be sold in the power market. Additionally, TotalEnergies will sell carbon credits generated by the project under Alberta's regulated carbon emission plan.
