Tokenized stocks, a subset of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), are rapidly gaining traction among institutions seeking faster and more cost-effective access to US equities. According to industry executives speaking at a recent conference in New York, tokenized stocks are poised to surpass $1 trillion in market capitalization in the coming years as adoption rates accelerate.
Arnab Naskar, CEO of STOKR, highlighted the significant potential of tokenized stocks, describing it as a "bigger trillion-dollar market." This sentiment was echoed by Anna Wroblewska, Chief Business Officer of Dinari, who noted an "explosion" in demand for these instruments from a diverse range of institutions, including Web3 wallets, neobanks, and traditional financial services firms. Wroblewska emphasized the broad scope of potential partners and the growing interest in tokenized stocks.
As of mid-April, tokenized stocks accounted for approximately $350 million in cumulative market capitalization, a small fraction of the total RWA market, which is valued at over $18 billion. However, this figure is expected to grow as tokenized stocks capture a larger share of the US equities market, which has an aggregate value exceeding $50 trillion. The appeal of tokenized stocks lies in their ability to provide fast and cheap access to US public equities, a demand that extends even to individual investors globally.
Wroblewska also pointed out the high demand for tokenized US Treasury Bills, which currently have a total market cap of nearly $6 billion. This trend underscores the broader interest in tokenized financial instruments. Additionally, a major cryptocurrency exchange is exploring the possibility of offering tokenized shares of its stock on its Ethereum layer-2 network, further indicating the growing acceptance and integration of tokenized assets in the financial ecosystem.
According to the analyst's forecast, tokenized RWAs represent a $30 trillion market opportunity globally. This shift could significantly alter the landscape of financial markets, making tokenized stocks a key area of focus for institutions and investors alike. The superior user experience, speed, and cost efficiency of tokenized assets are driving this trend, with users increasingly preferring tokenized assets over traditional financial instruments.
