Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin launched the "Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme" to attract Rs 30,000 crore in investments and create 60,000 jobs. The scheme offers incentives matching those under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. Tamil Nadu secured the top position in Indian states for electronics exports in 2024-25, achieving a record $14.65 billion.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin recently unveiled the "Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme" aimed at attracting Rs 30,000 crore in investments and generating 60,000 jobs. The scheme offers incentives comparable to those provided by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme [1].
The state has seen significant growth in its electronics exports, securing the top position in Indian states for the fiscal year 2024-25 with a record $14.65 billion [2]. This growth is attributed to the state's robust infrastructure, talented workforce, and progressive policies. The scheme aims to further boost the electronics sector, which has already made Tamil Nadu a leader in electronics manufacturing.
The state's Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) sector has rebounded from past challenges, with leading contract manufacturers like Foxconn, Sanmina, Flex, and Tata Electronics now operating in Tamil Nadu. The sector's diversity, including contributions from companies like Apple, has helped drive its success.
The new scheme aligns with Tamil Nadu's broader strategy to attract Taiwanese investments. The state has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce to establish an 'Indo-Taiwan Industrial Park' near Chennai, with an investment potential of Rs 1,800 crore and the creation of around 5,000 jobs [1]. The state government aims to attract Rs 10,000 crore of Taiwanese investments, creating over 20,000 jobs in focus sectors like electronic components, technical textiles, and footwear components.
These initiatives demonstrate Tamil Nadu's commitment to fostering a thriving electronics industry and attracting significant investments. As the state continues to leverage its strengths and strategic partnerships, it is poised to maintain its leadership position in the electronics sector.
