Tether Launches USDT on Kaia Blockchain, Expanding Reach to 196 Million LINE Users
Tether, the issuer of the widely-used stablecoin USDT, has expanded its reach by launching USDT on the kaia blockchain. This strategic move is part of a partnership with LINE NEXT, the blockchain arm of the popular messaging platform LINE, which boasts over 196 million monthly users. The integration allows LINE users to access and utilize USDT for various purposes, including payments, rewards, and decentralized finance (DeFi) activities, all within the LINE app.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that it provides over 200 million LINE users with a seamless way to engage with digital assets in their daily lives. The partnership leverages LINE NEXT’s blockchain infrastructure to offer users a straightforward and efficient experience with USDT.
Sam Seo, chairman of the Kaia DLT Foundation, emphasized the technical advantages of Kaia’s blockchain, noting its low transaction latency and immediate finality. These features ensure that USDT transactions on Kaia are fast, easy, and reliable, enhancing the user experience across various platforms, including LINE, DeFi, and centralized exchanges (CEXs).
Under this partnership, USDT will be integrated with LINE’s Mini Dapps and self-custodial wallet. Users will be able to complete in-app tasks and earn rewards in USDT, as well as send and receive the token with friends. This integration aims to boost the adoption of stablecoins in Asia by making USDT more accessible and user-friendly.
This development comes at a time when Tether is actively engaging in lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C., to influence crypto regulation. The company has plans to launch a U.S.-based dollar-pegged stablecoin by the end of 2025, with the possibility of an earlier launch depending on the outcome of pending legislation. This strategic move aligns with Tether’s broader goals of expanding its stablecoin offerings and increasing its presence in the global market.
