Tether CEO Envisions One Trillion AI Agents Using Bitcoin USDT by 2040

Tether, a prominent player in the cryptocurrency space, has outlined an ambitious vision for the future of digital economies. The company's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, envisions a future where one trillion AI agents will conduct decentralized transactions using Bitcoin and USDT, Tether's stablecoin, by 2040. This radical transformation is expected to redefine the landscape of automated commerce, with AI agents interacting autonomously without human intervention.

Ardoino shared this vision on the Big Brain podcast, emphasizing that each AI agent will possess an autonomous digital wallet. He dismissed the notion that traditional financial institutions like JPMorgan could host these entities, instead advocating for the financial autonomy of AI bots facilitated by assets like USDT. USDT, with over $155 billion in circulation, is already a dominant force in the market. Tether has also launched a wallet-development kit to integrate these technologies into non-custodial solutions, further supporting the growth of AI-driven transactions.

Tether's strategic initiatives align with the rise of AI. In April 2024, the company introduced Tether Data, an open-source artificial intelligence structure. A month later, Tether AI was launched with the goal of creating an unstoppable peer-to-peer network of billions of AI agents. These developments are part of Tether's broader strategy to prepare for a decentralized economic future, where blockchain and automation converge to drive intelligence.

This vision is set against a backdrop of evolving regulations, particularly the two US bills on stablecoins expected to be adopted by the end of summer.
