Tesla has opened its first retro-futuristic Supercharger diner in Los Angeles, featuring 80 charging stalls and a menu of classic American comfort food. The diner, inspired by the Cybertruck, operates 24/7 and showcases Tesla videos on two 66-foot megascreens. Patrons praised the design and food, with a line forming around the block less than 24 hours after opening. Tesla CEO Elon Musk plans to expand the concept to other major cities if successful.
Tesla has officially opened its first retro-futuristic Supercharger diner in Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone in the company's efforts to blend technology and classic American nostalgia. The new facility, located on Santa Monica Boulevard, combines a 24-hour diner, a 1950s-style drive-in theater, and an 80-stall V4 Supercharger hub, making it the largest urban Supercharger station in the world [1].
The diner, designed by Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's chief designer, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and features a menu curated by renowned chef Eric Greenspan. Signature items include the Tesla Burger, fried chicken and waffles, hot dogs, and house-made cinnamon rolls, alongside all-day breakfast options and "epic" bacon [1].
One of the standout features of the Tesla Diner is its seamless integration with Tesla vehicles. Patrons can order meals directly through the in-car touchscreen, with a geofenced ordering system detecting when a driver is 15-20 minutes away from the diner to prepare the meal for timely pickup or delivery [1].
The diner also offers a unique entertainment experience, with two massive 45-foot screens playing movies and entertainment clips for guests as their cars charge. Additionally, Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus is serving popcorn to diners, adding a futuristic twist to the classic drive-in experience [1].
The LA diner is more than just a restaurant; it also functions as Tesla's largest urban Supercharger location in the world. Equipped with 80 V4 charging stalls, the site supports all NACS-compatible electric vehicles, turning the typical EV charging stop into a seamless, enjoyable experience [1].
Elon Musk has already hinted at the potential for expansion, stating that if the concept proves successful, Tesla plans to roll out similar diner-Supercharger hybrids in other major cities and along long-distance travel routes [1]. The success of the LA diner is expected to pave the way for future installations, with Musk already approving a location in Starbase, Texas [1].
The Tesla Diner and Supercharger in Hollywood, LA, is expected to serve 2,000-2,500 guests daily, setting a new standard for what an EV charging station can be [1].
