Tesla (TSLA.US) announced it will launch its new autonomous Robotaxi at an event on October 10 at Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, California. The electric vehicle maker typically hosts events at its factories, such as the Gigafactory in Austin. However, in 2016, Tesla used Hollywood studio space to showcase its solar roof products at the Desperate Housewives set.

The 110-acre Warner property has 29 sound stages and has been used to make big movies and television shows. Earlier this year, Tesla delayed its original Robotaxi event from August 8 to October 10 due to changes in the design of the mass-market prototype of its autonomous vehicle.

Tesla rose 0.93% before the market opened on Tuesday to $216.10.

Other automakers are also pushing forward with autonomous Robotaxi development. Waymo confirmed that its sixth-generation autonomous Robotaxi, developed by Geely's ZEEKR, will have 13 fewer onboard cameras and four fewer LiDAR sensors than the hardware in its Waymo Jaguar I-PACE. The new car is expected to cost much less than the $100,000 rumored for existing models and is seen as a key step toward expanding operations. Waymo also announced that its weekly autonomous driving has increased to more than 100,000.

Meanwhile, Baidu (BIDU.US) highlighted that its autonomous ride-hailing platform averaged about 75,000 rides per week in the second quarter. While the company has made progress, management noted that it may take years to roll out nationwide and gain a meaningful share of the ride-hailing market.

Ark Invest said, despite Waymo and Baidu being first to enter the autonomous Robotaxi market, its research showed that Tesla was using about 70 times as much data to train its autonomous system. "As with most AI projects, Tesla's data advantage could be a commercial game-changer in this winner-takes-all opportunity," wrote ARK analysts.

Turning market noise into visual signal.
