Tesla (TSLA.US) is set to make its entry into the Indian market, and they're looking for talented individuals to join their team.
Tesla (TSLA.US) is hiring staff in India, a clear indication that the electric vehicle maker plans to enter the country soon after CEO Elon Musk indicated as much during his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US. The company posted 13 job openings on its LinkedIn page on Monday, covering customer-facing roles and back-end positions. At least five roles, including service technicians and various consulting positions, are open in Mumbai and Delhi, while others such as customer engagement manager and delivery operations expert are only available in Mumbai. Tesla and India have been in and out of contact for years, but the carmaker has been deterred by concerns over high import tariffs. India has now reduced the basic tariff on high-end cars, which cost more than $40,000, from 110 per cent to 70 per cent. While the Indian electric vehicle market is still in its infancy compared with China, it offers Tesla a chance to address the first decline in EV sales in a decade. Last year, India sold nearly 100,000 EVs, while China sold 11m. Tesla’s plans to enter India follow Mr Modi’s meeting with Mr Musk and US President Donald Trump in Washington last week. Mr Trump later said the Indian leader had agreed to start trade talks to address the US trade deficit and increase US military procurement, including steps towards supplying F-35 fighter jets. While Mr Musk is a key member of Mr Trump’s cabinet, the president did not specify whether the technology billionaire met Mr Modi as the head of a private company or as a member of the DOGE team. Mr Musk’s role in the Trump administration has blurred the lines between his business and political interests. Last month, Italy confirmed it was in talks with Mr Musk’s SpaceX to reach an agreement to provide secure telecommunications for the Italian government, a development that came after Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte met Mr Trump in Florida when he was still president-elect.
