Tesla (TSLA.US) is recalling thousands of Cybertrucks due to exterior panel issues.
Tesla (TSLA.US) is recalling 46,096 Cybertrucks in the US due to the possibility that exterior body panels may detach while driving. The recall affects all 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025.
The Cybertrucks feature a decorative component called a cant rail (side top rail trim), which is a component made of a stamped steel part that has been electroplated and a stainless steel panel that is bonded with structural adhesive.
The recall report indicates that the stainless steel exterior body panels may delaminate and detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a collision.
Tesla's service department will replace the side top rail trim component free of charge.
Cybertrucks have been recalled multiple times. In October 2024, about 27,000 Cybertrucks were recalled due to a software failure that delayed the display of the rearview camera image. Earlier, in April 2024, nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks faced a recall due to a problem with the accelerator pedal (which could cause unintended acceleration). These incidents highlight the challenges Cybertrucks have faced during their launch.
Tesla first unveiled the concept of an electric pickup truck in 2019, but production was delayed due to battery supply constraints and manufacturing issues until 2023.
As of writing, Tesla's shares fell 1.42% before the market opened on Thursday, bringing its year-to-date losses to nearly 42%.
