-

plans to build a dedicated Texas facility for Optimus robot production, targeting 10 million annual units by 2027.

- The Texas factory will be ten times larger than California's Fremont pilot line (1 million units/year) and includes infrastructure upgrades.

- Construction has begun with land clearing, equipment arrivals, and cooling systems, while Musk envisions global deployment of hundreds of billions of robots.

- He emphasizes safety as a priority and claims Optimus could revolutionize work by eliminating repetitive tasks, though mass production locations remain uncertain.

Tesla is preparing to expand its massive Gigafactory in Texas, building a dedicated facility to produce its humanoid robots, Optimus. Musk has previously stated that the majority of the robot production will be based at the Texas factory, with an annual production goal of 10 million units, starting in 2027.

Currently,

operates a pilot production line at its Fremont, California factory, assembling a few prototypes of Optimus to support continuous iterations and technology validation. The Fremont line is expected to have a production capacity of 1 million units per year, whereas the Texas facility is expected to be ten times that size.

Drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer observed that Tesla’s construction team has started land clearing and site preparation at the Texas factory, with more production equipment arriving, seemingly for the battery structure components. Giant transformers for the substation are being assembled, and concrete pouring is underway for the flooring. Cooling units are also being constructed.

Musk previously stated, “I believe that in the future, hundreds of billions of Optimus robots could be deployed globally. Of course, safety will be a top priority, no question. Right now, we are planning a production line with an annual capacity of 10 million units, but as for a line with a 100 million or more annual output, it's uncertain where it will be built—maybe on Mars, who knows?”

Musk has boldly claimed that the Optimus robot could be one of humanity's greatest products, as it will completely transform how people work and could potentially eliminate repetitive, monotonous tasks from daily life.
