Tesla India: Launch of Tesla in India via opening Tesla experience centre on July 15

Tesla is set to make its official entry into the Indian market with the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on July 15, 2025. This event marks a significant milestone in India's electric mobility journey and could potentially bring Elon Musk's satellite internet venture, Starlink, to Indian soil.

The 4,000 sq ft Tesla experience centre will showcase the company's vehicles and provide a tech experience zone, aligning with Tesla's direct-to-customer sales model. After-sales support will be handled through local partners. The Model Y, imported from Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory, is expected to lead the charge, priced around ₹70 lakh (ex-showroom), targeting premium EV buyers and early adopters [1].

The event is likely to attract high-profile attendees, including CEO Elon Musk and possibly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the significance of Tesla's long-awaited arrival. Test mules of the Model Y and Model 3 have already been spotted on Indian roads, indicating that the Model 3 may not be far behind.

Tesla's India entry coincides with the government's active finalization of an EV-friendly policy that includes incentives for local manufacturing. Should this framework be approved soon, Tesla could follow its playbook in China by starting with imports before transitioning to local assembly or manufacturing.

There is also speculation that Musk may use the occasion to announce the launch of Starlink, his satellite-based broadband service, which has already secured final regulatory approval from India's National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe). Starlink could bring high-speed satellite internet to rural and remote regions across the country.

Tesla has been actively recruiting for its India operations, with job postings across various roles in sales, customer service, operations, and Autopilot testing in cities like Mumbai and Delhi. This hiring spree suggests that Tesla is in it for the long haul and sees India as a critical piece in its global growth puzzle.

As anticipation builds ahead of the July 15 event, it is clear that Tesla's arrival is more than just a car launch. It could be a high-voltage moment for India's EV ecosystem, especially if Musk does turn up.
