Tesla Gains Arizona Approval for Autonomous Robotaxi Testing

To offer ride services to the public or operate as a ride-hailing service, Tesla must also obtain a transportation network service license, similar to the requirements for other ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft operating in the state.

This approval makes Arizona the third state where Tesla is permitted to test its autonomous vehicles, following Texas and Nevada. Earlier this month, Nevada granted Tesla the necessary permits. In June, Tesla launched its highly anticipated autonomous ride-hailing service to a small group of "early experience users" in Austin. In late July, Tesla also opened access to its autonomous ride-hailing app in the San Francisco Bay Area, although the vehicles in operation do not yet meet the "fully autonomous" standard. These vehicles are equipped with an unreleased test version of the FSD driver assistance software and require a safety monitor in the front seat. Investors are closely watching the pace of Tesla's expansion of its autonomous ride-hailing network.
