Tesla's European Sales Plummet Amid Controversies and New Model Launch
Recent data reveals that Tesla's car sales in France and Sweden have plunged to their lowest quarterly level in four years. The French Automobile Association reported that the number of new car registrations in France dropped by 14.54% in March, totaling 153,842 units, with TeslaTSLA-- experiencing a substantial 36.83% decrease in sales, accounting for only 3,157 vehicles.
Meanwhile, in Sweden, figures from Mobility Sweden indicated that Tesla's new car registrations in March fell sharply by 64% compared to the previous year, amounting to just 911 vehicles. This downturn marks the third consecutive month of declining sales for Tesla in these regions and contributes to their lowest quarterly performance since 2021.
The upcoming launch of Tesla's new Model Y electric SUV has generated anticipation among potential buyers, yet its release has not curbed the diminishing sales figures. An intriguing element in this situation is the potential impact of controversies surrounding CEO Elon Musk's association with European far-right political factions, which could be detracting from Tesla's appeal in the European market.
Analysts underscore that the sales data from France, Sweden, and other significant European markets are crucial indicators for Tesla's impending global delivery figures, scheduled to be announced soon. These numbers are reflective of consumer confidence in the brand. The official statistics reveal that Tesla's March registrations stood at 3,157 in France and 911 in Sweden, marking respective year-over-year declines of 36.83% and 63.9%. For the first quarter, total sales fell to 6,693 units in France and 1,929 in Sweden.
