Tesla said it still plans to start selling its Cybertruck in Canada this year.
"I will," Tesla said through its official Cybertruck account on the X platform, to reassure Canadian Tesla fans that the car will be available in Canada.
Tesla said in another response: "The goal remains this year."
Tesla unveiled its full product lineup, including the Cybertruck, at the Canadian International AutoShow in February in Toronto. At the time, a company executive confirmed that the electric car would be sold in Canada because more people were interested in the vehicle, but he noted that they "need to submit some standard paperwork."
Last week, Canada's Transport Ministry approved the use of Tesla's steel belt drive system in Canada, a technology that does not meet the country's minimum turning radius requirement and is currently only used on the company's Cybertruck.
However, government officials said Tesla must start providing detailed semi-annual accident reports from Jan. 18, along with other regulatory requirements, with the approval valid until July 2029.
Cybertruck chief engineer Wes Morrill said that while more approvals are needed to sell the car in Canada, the government green light was a "big milestone."
Tesla's Canadian website currently only shows a $150 reservation option for the Cybertruck.
