Teledyne Energy Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of its Hydrogen Electrical Power System (HEPS) fuel cell aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket through NASA’s Tipping Point opportunity
Teledyne Fuel Cell Successfully Launched on Blue Origin’s New Shepard[1]. The launch took place on August 23, 2025, and marked a major advancement in fuel cell technology for future lunar and deep space missions.
The HEPS is designed to deliver efficient, scalable, air-independent power for lunar habitats and surface operations. It is capable of surviving lunar night and functioning autonomously in microgravity, making it an ideal solution for sustainable lunar exploration. Barbara Stachowiak, Vice President and General Manager of Teledyne Energy Systems, noted that the launch reflects years of research and development aimed at delivering reliable energy for space exploration.
The flight tested the HEPS’ power generation, thermal management, and resilience to space conditions. The results will guide future integration into lunar and Mars infrastructure. Teledyne’s Tipping Point project, managed by NASA’s Flight Opportunities program, will inform NASA’s plans for sustainable lunar exploration through missions like Artemis.
