Teledyne FLIR Defense, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), has been awarded a five-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract worth up to $74.2 million to provide modernized imaging surveillance systems to the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The contract, announced on January 13, 2025, will enable the USCG to enhance its maritime surveillance capabilities and stay on the cutting edge of technology.

The advanced Electro-Optic Sensor System-Modernized (ESS-M) platform features a full-HD sensor suite, updated user interfaces, and advanced processing capabilities that will support future growth. The ESS-M systems provide operators with high-definition daylight, low light, and infrared imagery, which will be used in support of all Coast Guard missions, with an emphasis on search and rescue, living marine resources, and law enforcement. The new technology will also augment coastal security, drug and migrant interdiction, ports and waterways protection, and other rapid response needs.

Teledyne FLIR Defense has a long history of providing imaging solutions to the USCG, having delivered and supported legacy ESS systems for medium- and short-range recovery aircraft since 2005. The company's expertise in thermal imaging and unmanned air and ground platforms has positioned it as a global leader in providing advanced, mission-critical technology and systems for military, security, and public safety challenges.

Dr. JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne FLIR Defense, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, stating, "The significant updates through ESS-M will enable the U.S. Coast Guard to stay on technology’s cutting edge while conducting its wide range of key maritime operations. We’re proud to extend our history of support and look forward to building our relationship across all mission areas."

Deliveries of the ESS-M systems are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. For more information on Teledyne FLIR's maritime surveillance solutions, visit their website online.
