TechInsights reported that the newly released Mac Mini is Apple's first carbon-neutral Mac product. Apple has already used a carbon-neutral strategy in its Apple Watch products, offsetting remaining emissions by using carbon credits after optimizing manufacturing processes such as using low-carbon electricity. Apple's filing shows that the carbon credit needed for the Mac Mini is significantly increased compared to Apple Watch products. Apple expects a significant decrease in the shipment of Mac Mini Pro series, allowing it to implement this strategy.According to TechInsights' market data, the total shipment of Apple Watch Series 9 from Q3 2023 to Q2 2024 is 10.03 million. Even if all these products are carbon-neutral models, only 81,243 tons (0.081MtCO2) of carbon credits are needed to offset them.Apple is not the only product that needs carbon offsets. Apple's corporate operations have been carbon-neutral since 2020. One major challenge Apple faces to achieve its goal of carbon neutrality across its entire value chain is to increase the number of high-quality carbon credits. Apple claims that its initial investment will remove 1 MtCO2 by 2025.Earlier this year, Apple released a white paper titled "Apple's Carbon Removal Strategy" detailing its plans to expand its carbon offset strategy to achieve its net-zero emissions goal by 2030. From 0.3 MtCO2 in 2022 to 9.6 MtCO2 in 2030.
