Tata Motors Aug. commercial vehicle sales 29,863 units
Mumbai, Aug 02, 2025: Tata Motors, one of India's leading automakers, reported a significant drop in commercial vehicle sales for July. The company sold 27,042 units, a substantial 18% decrease from the 32,944 units sold during the same period last year [1]. This decline was primarily driven by a 11% drop in domestic sales of medium and heavy intermediate commercial vehicles (MH & ICV), including trucks and buses, to 11,174 units from 13,291 units in July 2023 [1].The company's total passenger vehicle sales, including electric vehicles (EVs), stood at 44,954 units, down 6% from 47,689 units in the same period last year [1]. Despite the decline, Tata Motors remains optimistic about the long-term growth prospects of its commercial vehicle segment, driven by friendly government policies, rapid urbanization, and economic growth [1].
Separately, PMI Electro Mobility, a key player in the electric bus market, is targeting a significant share of the upcoming PM E-DRIVE Phase I tenders. The company aims to secure orders for about 30% of the 10,900 electric buses under the scheme, leveraging localization to cut costs and drive revenue growth [2]. This strategic move comes as India pushes towards its goal of deploying 50,000 electric buses by 2030.
In another development, Tata Motors is set for a major restructuring after the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai Bench, approved its Composite Scheme of Arrangement with subsidiaries TML Commercial Vehicles and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles [3]. The restructuring aims to demerge the commercial vehicle arm and merge the passenger vehicle unit, creating a more streamlined structure to boost operational efficiency and strategic focus [3].
The company's shares are expected to remain in focus as the restructuring moves closer to execution, with analysts forecasting a potential unlocking of greater operational efficiency and sharpened business focus across its commercial and passenger vehicle verticals [3].
