Survey Shows Almost Half of Republican Voters Won't Accept The Result If Trump Loses The Election
Almost four years ago, due to former U.S. President Trump's refusal to accept his loss in the election to the current President Biden, his supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election, creating a shocking January 6th riot that stunned the world.
Now, as the 2024 U.S. election draws near, Republican presidential candidate Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Harris are set for a final showdown. With the release of a new poll, there is growing concern that similar riots could once again take place in the United States.
According to a new survey, 46% of Republican respondents said they would not accept the legitimacy of the election results if the Democratic candidate wins. 14% of Republicans said they would take action to overturn the election results if the Democratic candidate wins.
In contrast, Democrats are much more moderate in the face of unfavorable election outcomes.
27% of Democratic respondents said they would not accept the legitimacy of the election results if the Republican candidate wins. 11% of Democrats said they would take action to overturn the election results if the Republican candidate wins.
The survey comes from the World Justice Project - a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to advancing the rule of law around the world. The survey involved 1046 Americans to predict their reactions to the 2024 presidential election results. The poll was conducted in June and the results were released on Monday.
The survey results show that after the 2020 election, the general public still lacks trust in the electoral process and will ultimately question the results of the November election. Only one-third of Republicans and two-thirds of Democrats believe the election officials are trustworthy.
U.S. President Biden warned earlier this month that he has no confidence in a peaceful transfer of power in January if Trump loses the presidential election.
It is also worth noting that despite a significant proportion of American citizens lacking trust in the electoral process, over 96% of both Republicans and Democrats agree that the rule of law is crucial for the future of the country.
Stay tuned for the heartbeat of the US election and political.
