SUI Network Unveils Quantum-Safe Accounts While SUI Group Reports Q2 Losses
- SUI Group reported a Q2 2026 net loss of $18.9 million, primarily driven by $16.6 million in non-cash digital asset losses, including a $14 million realized loss from a Bluefin loan.
- Sui Network is implementing post-quantum cryptography using NIST-standardized ML-DSA-65 and SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s signatures to protect accounts and vaults against future quantum threats.
- The network processed over $65 billion in stablecoin transfers in just two months following the elimination of gas fees, positioning itself as settlement plumbing for global commerce.
- SUI Group is diversifying its treasury by investing in high-conviction themes like Agentic Finance, allocating $6 million into AI ventures such as N of1 and Recursive Superintelligence.
- The quantum-safe upgrade will increase transaction data sizes, with ML-DSA-65 signatures reaching 3,309 bytes compared to 64 bytes for Ed25519, though verification costs remain manageable.
SUI Group Holdings Ltd. reported a net loss of $18.9 million, or $(0.23) per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2026. This result marks a sharp contrast to net income of $677 thousand recorded in the same period the previous year. The loss was largely attributable to approximately $16.6 million in non-cash losses on digital assets and receivables.
A significant portion of the realized loss, $14.0 million, was recognized in connection with an additional loan extended to Bluefin. Management emphasized that these U.S. GAAP-required accounting treatments reflect changes in estimated fair value and strategic deployment rather than actual cash outflows.
Despite the GAAP loss, the company generated SUISUI-- staking and lending revenue. Staking revenue contributed $327 thousand, with the company’s SUI treasury earning an approximate 1.7% annualized yield during the six months ended June 30, 2026.
On the revenue side, the increase was primarily driven by the generation of SUI staking revenue and digital lending interest income from the Company’s SUI digital asset treasury strategy. The company maintains a strong cash position with over two years of operating runway, excluding any yield or income from its treasury.
SUI Group is actively enhancing balance sheet productivity through strategic, risk-adjusted lending. The company expanded its partnership with Bluefin, increasing the revenue share from 5% to 11%. Additionally, the company successfully unwound risky DeFi positions during the quarter, recovering all deployed amounts, demonstrating disciplined risk management.
The company is also diversifying its treasury strategy by investing in high-conviction themes like Agentic Finance. SUI GroupSUIG-- completed two strategic investments totaling $6 million, including a $3 million SAFE investment in Nof1 and a $3 million investment in Recursive Superintelligence’s $650 million funding round.
How Will Sui Network Handle Post-Quantum Security Threats?
Sui is preparing to introduce quantum-safe accounts and vaults, utilizing a migration design that allows users to change the cryptography protecting their account without moving assets to a new address. The network plans to support two NIST-standardized post-quantum signature systems: ML-DSA-65 (FIPS 204) for normal accounts and SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s for higher-value vaults built with Move smart contracts.
These systems are designed to resist attacks from large-scale quantum computers that could threaten current elliptic-curve signatures. The upgrade is targeted for Mainnet before the end of 2026, with native ML-DSA-65 accounts expected on Testnet by year-end.
Normally, replacing blockchain cryptography requires users to create new addresses and transfer tokens, NFTs, and other assets, which can disrupt applications and contracts tied to the old address. Sui’s existing Address Aliases system solves this by allowing an account to maintain authorized aliases.
A new signer can be added to this set and eventually become the only signer allowed to approve transactions, while the original address continues to appear as the sender. When ML-DSA accounts become available, existing accounts will authorize a post-quantum signer while retaining the same address.
The recovery process is designed to remain familiar; an ML-DSA-65 key can be derived from a user’s existing recovery phrase through a new derivation path. However, the upgrade comes with trade-offs in data size.
An ML-DSA-65 signature is 3,309 bytes compared to 64 bytes for Ed25519, and the selected SLH-DSA configuration produces a 7,856-byte signature. This increases transaction data requirements, though Sui states that verification performance remains close to Ed25519.
Can Sui Become the Global Standard for Digital Payments?
Mysten Labs co-founder Evan Cheng has projected that Sui will handle every digital payment on the internet within four years. This prediction is supported by recent performance data: Sui processed over $65 billion in stablecoin transfers in just two months following the elimination of gas fees for stablecoin movements on June 10.

Cumulative stablecoin volume since early 2024 stands at $2.27 trillion, highlighting the network's rapid adoption. The core driver of this volume is the removal of gas fee friction, which addresses a primary barrier for merchants and applications.
By eliminating fees for stablecoin movements, Sui addresses a primary barrier for merchants and applications, which previously had to hold reserve assets to cover network costs. This infrastructure shift positions Sui not as a speculative trading venue, but as settlement plumbing for stablecoins, remittances, and eventually agentic commerce between AI systems.
Sui is also expanding its utility beyond native tokens through the Hashi testnet, launched July 22. Hashi allows BitcoinBTC-- to collateralize DeFi loans without wrapping, enabling holders to retain custody assumptions while accessing Sui’s liquidity.
Additionally, the network is developing default privacy for stablecoin transactions, a feature flagged as essential for institutional adoption. However, skepticism remains regarding Sui’s $2.8 billion market capitalization relative to Cheng’s ambitious targets, with recurring token unlock schedules adding supply pressure.
The coming year’s data on gasless volume and Hashi adoption will serve as the key test of this long-term infrastructure thesis. Sui represents a distinct approach to high-performance blockchain design, leveraging parallel transaction execution to scale to approximately 300,000 transfers per second.
In contrast to Solana's single-shard execution, Sui's object-centric data model facilitates parallel processing. This design offers superior asset safety and developer ergonomics for specific use cases, particularly those involving many independent object updates.
SUI Group maintains a SUI treasury valued at approximately $75.3 million as of August 3, 2026. The company's treasury strategy remains heavily concentrated in SUI tokens, making financial performance highly susceptible to cryptocurrency volatility.
Cash and cash equivalents decreased sharply to $3.1 million as of June 30, 2026, down from $21.9 million at the end of 2025. This indicates a substantial drawdown in liquid reserves, likely due to the strategic investments and lending activities mentioned earlier.
The legacy specialty finance portfolio continues to face challenges, with borrowers experiencing credit difficulties, and is not expected to drive new originations. Furthermore, the company's treasury remains heavily concentrated in SUI tokens, making financial performance highly susceptible to cryptocurrency volatility.
Management noted that while partnership opportunities exist, many do not meet strict risk-adjusted criteria, potentially limiting the pipeline for high-yield investments. The company is also diversifying its treasury by investing in high-conviction themes like Agentic Finance, with investments in N of1 and Recursive Superintelligence to capture future growth.
The implementation supports address aliases, allowing users to replace authorization keys while maintaining the same wallet address and asset balances. This ensures continuity for users migrating to quantum-safe keys.
The system also supports multisignature authenticators, enabling accounts to require both classical Ed25519 and post-quantum ML-DSA-65 signatures. Independent security audits are currently underway as the project follows the broader industry trend toward quantum security.
Institutional custody providers are increasingly focusing on future risks, driving the adoption of quantum-resistant standards across the digital asset ecosystem. Sui's phased rollout ensures that existing applications and smart contracts continue to operate without modification.
