PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust was organized in Maryland on May 18, 2009 and commenced operations on August 4, 2009 when it completed its beneficial interest in the original shares of common stock. The Company is a professional financial company. The Company, through its subsidiaries (all wholly owned), mainly invests in residential mortgage loans and mortgage-related assets. The Company's primary investment objective is to maximize the value of its acquired mortgage loans, a significant portion of which may be distressed and acquired at a discount on their unpaid principal balance, whether through loan modification programs, special services, and other initiatives focused on keeping borrowers in their homes or through timely acquisition of property-secured loans and liquidations when necessary. The company has two divisions: correspondent loans and investment activities. The corresponding lending business focuses on the resale of newly acquired mortgage loans and the investment activity segment focusing on mortgage assets acquired and held for investment purposes.
