STERIS Announces CFO Transition, Karen Burton to Succeed Michael Tokich

STERIS plc announced that Michael J. Tokich, Senior Vice President and CFO, will step down after 17 years in the role. Karen L. Burton, currently Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer, will succeed Tokich as Senior Vice President and CFO. The transition will occur on August 18, 2025. Tokich will become Senior Financial Advisor, reporting to the CEO. Burton has held various roles within the finance organization at STERIS over the past two decades.

STERIS plc (NYSE: STE) has announced a significant leadership transition, with Michael J. Tokich stepping down as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) after 17 years in the role. Karen L. Burton, currently Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), will succeed Tokich as Senior Vice President and CFO effective August 18, 2025 [1].

Under Tokich's tenure as CFO since 2008, STERIS has experienced remarkable growth, with revenue quadrupling and market capitalization increasing from $1 billion to $22 billion [1]. Tokich will transition to the role of Senior Financial Advisor, reporting to the CEO. Burton, who has been with STERIS since 2004 and served as CAO since 2017, will oversee all global finance functions and IT in her new role [1].

Burton will succeed Tokich as Senior Vice President and CFO, reporting to Carestio. Tokich and Burton have worked closely together for twenty years and will ensure a smooth transition. In this role, Burton will join STERIS’s senior executive board and have responsibility for all global finance functions as well as IT. Burton joined STERIS as Assistant Controller in 2004 and became CAO in 2017. Over the past two decades, Burton has held roles of increasing responsibility within the finance organization at STERIS. As CAO, she has responsibility for the accounting, treasury, tax and corporate finance functions [1].
