Starbucks is rolling out AI technology to improve inventory counting. The move aims to enhance efficiency and accuracy in managing inventory across its global stores. The technology will use computer vision and machine learning to automatically scan and count inventory levels. This will help Starbucks reduce human error and improve the accuracy of its inventory management. The company plans to implement the technology in all its stores worldwide.

Starbucks is set to transform its inventory management processes by rolling out AI technology across its global stores. The move is aimed at enhancing efficiency and accuracy in managing inventory, a critical aspect of the company's operations. The technology, developed by NomadGo, leverages computer vision and machine learning to automatically scan and count inventory levels, thereby reducing human error and improving overall accuracy.

NomadGo's patented technology, known as NomadGo Inventory AI, combines computer vision, 3D spatial intelligence, and augmented reality to automate inventory counting using smartphones and tablets. This innovative solution promises to deliver up to eight times faster results than manual methods, with an accuracy rate of 99% [1]. The technology is already being deployed in over 11,000 Starbucks locations across North America, with plans to extend its use to all company-owned and operated coffeehouses worldwide by the end of September 2025.

Starbucks' chief technology officer, Deb Hall Lefevre, highlighted the benefits of this technology, stating, "This technology streamlines a critical but time-intensive task. With faster, more accurate inventory counts, our partners can spend more time focusing on what matters: crafting high-quality beverages and connecting with customers" [1].

The integration of NomadGo's Inventory AI is expected to have significant implications for Starbucks' supply chain. By providing near-perfect visibility into store operations, the technology can drastically improve the frequency of supply chain line of sight, increasing product availability and reducing costs. This enhanced agility and responsiveness in the supply chain can help Starbucks better match supply to demand, preventing out-of-stock situations and lowering the cost of goods sold.

NomadGo's CEO, David Greschler, underscored the validation of their patented technology through this large-scale deployment, noting that it not only streamlines inventory management but also delivers frequent, highly accurate data that prevents out-of-stock situations and lowers cost of goods sold. This technological advancement positions Starbucks to maintain its competitive edge in the global coffee market.
