Sportsman's Warehouse Names Paul Stone as CEO, Former Cabela's Exec, Effective November 1

Sportsman's Warehouse Holdings has appointed Paul Stone, former chief retail officer at Cabela's and president and COO of Hertz Global Holdings, as its new CEO effective Nov. 1. Stone replaces Joseph P. Schneider, who will retire and be replaced by board director Rich McBee. Sportsman's Warehouse shares rose 2.6% premarket but are down 63% in the year to date.

In a significant move aimed at revitalizing its leadership and driving growth, Sportsman's Warehouse Holdings, Inc. (SPWH) announced the appointment of Paul Stone as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President. Stone brings over three decades of retail experience, including a successful tenure in the outdoor specialty space.

Stone's most recent role was as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hertz Global Holdings, Inc., where he oversaw operations at more than 11,000 locations worldwide. During his time at Hertz, Stone demonstrated a strong focus on customer service excellence, a trait that is expected to serve him well in his new role at Sportsman's Warehouse.

Prior to Hertz, Stone served as Chief Retail Officer (CRO) at Cabela's Inc., where he transformed the customer experience and led the modernization of the company's digitization strategy. His experience in the outdoor specialty retail space is particularly noteworthy, given Sportsman's Warehouse's focus on catering to outdoor enthusiasts.

The appointment of Stone follows an extensive search process conducted by Sportsman's Warehouse's Board of Directors, with the assistance of a leading independent executive search firm. The Board conducted a thorough evaluation of both internal and external candidates, ultimately selecting Stone for his experience and qualifications.

Joseph P. Schneider, who has served as Interim CEO and President since April 2023, will continue in his role until Stone's appointment on November 1. Schneider will also retire from the Board at the end of the year, and Rich McBee will succeed him as Independent Chair.
