Space and Time, a blockchain project backed by Microsoft, has launched its public, permissionless mainnet. This launch aims to provide zero-knowledge (ZK)-proven data infrastructure for various crypto applications. The project, developed by MakeInfinite Labs, offers a decentralized, verifiable database that allows smart contracts to query historical, crosschain, and offchain data.

The platform indexes data from major networks such as Ethereum and makes it accessible through a decentralized network of validators. Developers can query this data using Space and Time’s Proof of SQL, a sub-second ZK coprocessor that delivers cryptographic proofs with every query. This innovation addresses a significant gap in the blockchain ecosystem, where onchain applications previously lacked secure methods to query user data from a database of blockchain activity without introducing security risks and tampering.

Scott Dykstra, co-founder of Space and Time, highlighted the transformative potential of this technology. He stated that developers can now build onchain applications with built-in security, using cryptographic proofs to connect cloud databases to smart contracts. This development is expected to enhance the security and reliability of blockchain applications, making them more robust and trustworthy.

Major builders and institutions have already shown interest in the Space and Time ecosystem. Prominent financial institutions, major cloud providers like Microsoft Azure and Google BigQuery, and leading crypto projects such as Chainlink, Sui, and ZKsync have either integrated or are building with tools or data services within the Space and Time ecosystem. This widespread adoption underscores the platform's potential to revolutionize the way data is queried and verified in the blockchain space.

Dykstra also announced that SXT, the native utility token for Space and Time, is planned for release on May 8. He encouraged the community to join the network as validators and delegated stakers, noting that the testnet had more than 30 validators worldwide, including in the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This global participation reflects the growing interest and support for the Space and Time project.

MakeInfinite Labs, the original contributors to Space and Time, held a strategic round led by Microsoft in 2022 and also supported the follow-on Series A round in 2024. The company has contributed to other projects within the crypto space, including Blitzar and the Chainlink DeFi Yield Index, further solidifying its position as a key player in the blockchain industry.
