Space and Time Launches Mainnet, Enabling Secure Data-Driven Crypto Applications

Space and Time, a blockchain project supported by Microsoft, has launched its permissionless mainnet, a significant development in the crypto and decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape. This launch enables smart contracts to access zero-knowledge (ZK) proven data, facilitating the creation of more complex and data-rich applications. This advancement is expected to power a new generation of data-driven crypto applications, addressing previous limitations in securely querying user data from blockchain databases.
The network, developed by MakeInfinite Labs, indexes data from other major blockchains and stores it using a decentralized validator network. Developers can access this data, verify its accuracy using ZK-proofs, and integrate it into their smart contract applications without exposing the full dataset. This is achieved through Proof of SQL, a protocol designed to validate database queries in a simplified format. By embedding a ZK-proof within the query, developers can confirm the accuracy of the results without revealing the entire dataset, thereby enhancing both security and efficiency.
Scott Dykstra, Contributor #001 at Space and Time, highlighted the transformative potential of this launch. He noted that prior to Space and Time, onchain applications faced significant challenges in securely querying user data from blockchain databases. Enterprises also lacked a secure method to connect their cloud databases with smart contracts. The launch of Space and Time addresses these issues, enabling a new wave of sophisticated, data-driven Web3 applications.
Nate Holiday, CEO of MakeInfinite Labs and Co-Founder of Space and Time, emphasized the team's focus on building foundational infrastructure to expand the capabilities of blockchain technology. He stated that contributing core technologies like Proof of SQL and the original architecture of Space and Time is part of their vision to enable the next generation of crypto applications.
Validators on the Space and Time network can contribute by providing quality data, staking tokens, or running nodes that help power and secure the network. This decentralized approach ensures the integrity and reliability of the data, making it a robust platform for developers to build upon.
The launch of Space and Time's mainnet signifies a major step forward in the adoption of zero-knowledge proofs in the crypto space. By providing a secure and efficient way to access and verify data, Space and Time is poised to drive innovation in the development of data-driven crypto applications, paving the way for a more sophisticated and secure blockchain ecosystem.
